Day-wise Itinerary
Arrive at Guwahati Airport (GAU) or Railway Station. Meet your private driver and begin the 5-hour drive to Kaziranga National Park. As you enter the district, keep an eye out for tea gardens lining the highway. Check into your forest resort and enjoy a traditional Assamese welcome. Spend the evening at leisure, perhaps visiting the nearby Kaziranga Orchid Park to see over 500 species of orchids.
Early morning, head to the park for an Elephant Safari (usually in the Western/Bagori range), providing a silent, close-up view of the rhinos in the tall elephant grass. After breakfast at the resort, gear up for an afternoon Jeep Safari in the Central/Kohora range. This range is the best for spotting a variety of wildlife including swamp deer and exotic birds.
After breakfast, drive back toward Guwahati ($190$ km / $4.5$ hours). Upon arrival, check into your hotel. In the evening, head to the riverfront for an optional Sunset Cruise on the Brahmaputra. Watching the sun dip below the horizon from the middle of one of India's largest rivers is a truly magical experience.
Visit the powerful Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal Hill (best visited early morning). Continue to the Umananda Temple, located on the world’s smallest inhabited river island (accessible by ferry). Visit the Assam State Museum and the Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra to understand the rich tribal heritage of the state. End your day shopping for Muga silk and Mekhela Chador at Fancy Bazar.
Enjoy a final Assamese breakfast. If time permits, visit the Navagraha Temple (Temple of Nine Planets) or the Regional Science Centre. Later, you will be transferred to the Airport or Railway Station for your flight/train back home.
