Tour Highlights
Day-wise Itinerary
Arrive in the charming hill station of Manali in the morning. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your welcoming accommodation. The rest of the day is dedicated to essential acclimatization.
Spiti Valley lies at a high altitude, and a day of rest is crucial for a smooth trip. Enjoy a leisurely exploration of the local area, perhaps a stroll through Old Manali or along the Mall Road, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and mountain views. Conclude your day with a comforting dinner at your hotel.
Today marks the official beginning of your Spiti adventure. After an early breakfast, you will board your Tempo Traveller and commence the thrilling drive towards Kaza, the cultural capital of Spiti. The journey takes you through the magnificent Atal Tunnel, significantly cutting down travel time, before ascending the formidable Kunzum Pass. This drive offers dramatic transitions in landscape, from the lush Kullu Valley to the stark, brown, and beautiful terrain of the Spiti region. After descending into the valley, you will arrive at your accommodation in Kaza for a well-deserved rest and dinner.
Devote the day to exploring the iconic high-altitude villages surrounding Kaza, each offering a unique cultural snapshot of Spiti. Your journey begins with a visit to Langza, famous for its towering golden Buddha statue and rich fossil hunting grounds. Next, proceed to Hikkim to send a postcard from the world's highest post office, a truly unique experience. Conclude the village circuit at Komic, considered one of the highest inhabited villages in Asia, where you can visit the ancient monastery and absorb the immense panoramic views of the cold desert mountains. Return to Kaza in the evening, feeling the profound stillness of the valley.
Today is dedicated to the spiritual and historical heart of Spiti. Start your day with a visit to Key Monastery (Ki Gompa), arguably the most famous and largest monastery in the valley, dramatically perched atop a hill. After soaking in the views and the serenity, continue to Kibber Village, once the highest motorable village in the world, and cross the breathtaking Chicham Bridge. Next, you will head towards Dhankar, the former capital of Spiti, to explore the ancient fort and monastery, perched precariously on a cliff overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers. Your day concludes in or near Tabo village, where you will check into your accommodation after visiting the UNESCO-recognised Tabo Monastery, known as the 'Ajanta of the Himalayas' for its invaluable ancient murals.
After an early breakfast, you will begin your scenic drive towards the stunning Chandratal Lake (The Moon Lake). This journey involves crossing the challenging Kunzum Pass once more. The mesmerizing crescent-shaped lake, known for its changing colours throughout the day, offers one of the most sublime camping experiences in the Himalayas. The motorable road ends a short distance from the lake, and you will walk the final stretch to witness its pristine beauty. Spend the evening in your Alpine Camp, enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings and a delicious dinner under the star-studded Spiti sky.
Wake up to the crisp mountain air near Chandratal, enjoy a final breakfast amidst nature, and prepare for the return journey. You will drive back towards Manali via the scenic route, crossing the Kunzum Pass and passing through the Atal Tunnel. Arrive in Manali by the afternoon. Check into your hotel in Manali and enjoy a final evening at leisure. You can utilize this time for souvenir shopping or a relaxing dinner out, celebrating the successful completion of your Spiti expedition.
